Stemlit is a literary magazine dedicated to work at the intersection of science and creative writing. It probes the reciprocal influence of the two: how scientific inquiry can provoke emotion and provide matter for art, while creative writing can bring new dimensions to the meaning, experience, and human impact of science. To that end, Stemlit seeks poetry, art, and hybrid work that engages ideas, language and experiences from the natural sciences, technology, engineering, mathematics, medicine, and research.

Emily (Em) Gao is a senior currently attending Princeton Day School and an artist with a deep passion for the sciences. She is incredibly interested in marine ecology and views art as a powerful bridge between science and the public. She loves creating in all forms of art, fine and literary. In her free time, she loves exploring the outdoors and going cafe hopping.

Founding Editor
Ariadna (Arina) Maksin is a poet and neurobiology researcher. Awarded first runner-up in Palette Poetry’s 2025-26 Rejected Poetry Prize judged by Mai Der Vang, her work can be found in Palette Poetry, Scapegoat Review, and Eunoia Review, among others. Arina is an alumna of the Iowa Young Writers' Studio and recipient of the Laidlaw Scholarship for her research on addiction circuitry. She splits her life between the West and East Coast, and her time dissecting either diction or brains.
